MS Revolver Association History

After an eight-year hiatus from USPSA matches, Glenn Whitfield returned to competition in November of 2005. Wanting  to  stay  outside  the mainstream equipment race and add a uniqueness to his shooting, he made his comback with the revolver he had used intermittently in previous competitions.

In his quest for additional trigger time, Glenn thought it beneficial to attend the first Confederation of Revolver Enthusiast (ICORE) Southern Regional Match in March of 2006 which was held in Thibodaux, LA. Hank Stern shared Glenn's interest in revolver competition, and joined Glenn at the match. Hank and Glenn joined ICORE at the Louisiana match as well as two other Mississippi shooters--Bill McFedridge and Tim Lott. Prior to their membership, Ross Davis was the only Mississippi ICORE member.

A few sample ICORE stages were shot at the end of USPSA matches at the Magnolia Rifle and Pistol Club in Byram, MS. Encouraged by the response, Glenn applied to ICORE for club membership in June 2006. The club was registered as the Mississippi Revolver Association, becoming the first ICORE club in the state. The first official match was held in July 2006. The first ICORE CUP and state match were held October 2007.

Why Revolvers?

  • Due to the glamorization of semi-autos in the movies and media, the ability of many shooters has been diluted.

  • Revolvers require additional gun handling skills and offer increased reliability over semi-auto handguns.

  • They represent a fundamental approach to reacquiring those lost skills and add a higher level of accomplishment for the shooter.

  • The Mississippi Revolver Association promotes this through regular monthly competitions under ICORE guidelines.

  •  ICORE promotes action shooting competition with revolvers.  It combines elements of the Bianchi Cup, IPSC, and the Steel Challenge into demanding competition exclusively for revolvers.
